Restful sleep, who gets it? Sleep problems? Need more sleep? Less sleep? Want to know how to go to sleep? How much sleep do you really need? Why can't I sleep? 8 hours of sleep?
Tossing and turning, trying to get to sleep and worrying about these questions can just add to your sleep problems.
Wake Up! :-) to a good night's sleep.
Sleeping is actually a very complex activity. Understanding sleep cycles, why we sleep,
when to sleep, how to sleep better can be a time consuming effort. But it's also
well worth spending a little more time doing that and a lot less time crumpling
your sheets to no avail. Your body is like a machine that runs on fuel and rest.
Maybe you have tried counting sheep? Ran out of sheep to count on a few occassions
myself, so I did some research, and I found the answers I was looking for to make
sleep an activity I actually liked.
I used to think of sleep as a waste of time. An excuse I used for not getting
enough and for feeling tired 80% of the time I was awake, which was about 90%
of every day.
I used to hate going to sleep, hated getting up just as much. I think Jerry Seinfield
said it was the 'night guy' making the 'day guy' pay. Staying up late, night after night,
not being able to go to sleep when I did go to bed, and then repeating the cycle.
It's a dangerous cycle and must be broken, as I did.
I went from hating going to sleep, not being able to stay asleep (until it was time to get
up of course) and needing 2 alarm clocks set at different intervals and different distances
from the bed to get me awake, to not having used an alarm clock in years, even when I'm travelling,
which is quite frequently, and not having overslept even once in that time. Ok, I've overslept a bit
a time or two, 15 to 30 minutes, but I always start my days early and am happy to get up and get going.
Believe me, it shocks everyone who knows me, too.
So, relax. Realize you are not alone in your sleep troubles, and that the answers are right around
the corner. And, most of the best answers don't involve counting sheep, taking medication, or putting
a dead frog under your pillow on the night of a full moon.
Good to know, eh?
